What You Need To Know About Lee Minho And Jun Jihyun’s New Drama

You won’t believe what Jihyun's role is.
legend-blue-sea.jpg
In My Love From Another Star, Jun Jihyun acted as an overbearing actress Chun Songyi; in Boys Over Flowers, Lee Minho acted as the rich and arrogant Gu Junpyo.
So what happens when the pair team up for a new drama, Legend of the Blue Sea? We reckon it’ll be pretty explosive because of these reasons.
Jihyun is acting as a mermaid.
Yes, not the mermaids you see at River Safari, but a real one – or as real as it can get in the drama.
The intriguing plot
Here’s the description we got from the press release, “The series tells the tale of the centuries spanning love of the world’s last mermaid and the man who has saved her. In the present day, Lee Minho plays a genius conman, and hilarity ensues when he crosses paths with Jun Ji Hyun’s mermaid character as she attempts to adjust to life on land.” So basically, man meets mermaid, fall in love and… live happily ever after – or not because lbr, this is a K-drama.
The director and the writer are amazeballs
The drama sees two powerhouses coming onboard: the writer is My Love from the Star’s Park Jieun, and the director did The Master’s Sun and City Hunter. So we can safely assume this will be a good run.
This is their small screen comeback
The reason why this production is a highly anticipated one is because it marks the return of both Jihyun and Minho to TV – the actress just gave birth earlier this year, while Minho has been focusing his efforts on movies for the past three years. And as far as we know, comeback projects are a huge deal for celebs, so we have expectations of this,
Jihyun’s acting
And if all fails, we can certainly rely on Jihyun’s versatile acting, considering most of her past works have gotten us hooked. If anything, we’re expecting a romcom like My Love From Another Star and Boys Over Flowers.
Legend of the Blue Sea premieres on ONE on 17 November and airs every Thursday and Friday at 8.10pm, within 24 hours of its Korean telecast. It is available first and exclusively on ONE.

The next hit K-drama?

Legend Of The Blue Sea, the K-drama that features superstars Lee Min Ho and Gianna Jun and which looks to be a sure-fire hit, will premiere exclusively on pay-television channel One in Singapore on Nov 17.

The eagerly anticipated show is by screenwriter Park Ji Eun, who also wrote the mega hit My Love From The Star (2013-2014).

Inspired by a Choson dynasty (1392-1910) story about a fisherman who catches and releases a mermaid, the drama will star Lee (The Inheritors, 2013) in a dual role, as the son of a noble family in imperial Korea and a modern-day con artist.

Returning to TV after she gave birth to a boy in February, Jun (My Love) will play a mermaid who ends up in Seoul. Legend will feature underwater scenes filmed in the island nation of Palau and the coastal scenery of Spain.

Industry watchers have predicted that the show may break the sales record set by Descendants Of The Sun, according to The Korea Herald. A Chinese media company is said to have offered 590 million won (S$715,000) an episode for rights to Legend.

Forbes.com said Chinese online video firm iQiyi paid US$250,000 (S$345,000) an episode to stream Descendants in China.

Legend Of The Blue Sea will air on One (StarHub TV Channel 820 and Singtel TV Channel 513) on Thursdays and Fridays at 8.10pm from Nov 17.

How Does Lee Min Ho Feel About His Hallyu Star Status?

Lee Min Ho

In honor of their 9th anniversary, X Sports News recently interviewed three Hallyu stars, including actor Lee Min Ho.

Lee Min Ho’s first major lead role was in “Boys Over Flowers,” a massive hit both domestically and abroad, and he followed it up with appearances in “Heirs,” “City Hunter,” “Gangnam Blues,” and “Bounty Hunter.” He is currently filming for the upcoming drama “Legend of the Blue Sea” with Jun Ji Hyun.

When asked if he felt responsibility as a Hallyu star, he said, “It feels like the title was just given to me one morning. It’s an honor and I’m grateful, but it still feels unfamiliar. I would feel the responsibility even without the title, because I know there are people around the world who are cheering for me.”

He also shared some of his direct experiences with the Hallyu wave. “When I meet fans who relate to Korean films and dramas even though they don’t understand the language or the culture, and when they talk about studying Korean and traveling to Korea because of those films and dramas, I think to myself that this is the true force of the Hallyu wave.”

“Legend of the Blue Sea,” which he is currently filming in Spain, is his first drama in three years. “I’m excited and nervous about how people will see me,” he said. “My character is a con artist, so I think I can show people multiple sides. As long as people look forward to watching it, I’ll be thankful.”

Finally, he shared a message for his fans in Korea and around the world. “Thank you for always staying by my side,” he said. “I will work harder to be an actor that makes you as happy as your energy makes me.”
