"The Legend of the Blue Sea" first episode, Jeon Ji-hyeon and Lee Min-ho, the dream casting effect

photo784876.png

The first episode of "The Legend of the Blue Sea" was successful thanks to Lee Min-ho and Jeon Ji-hyeon who collaborated with writer Park Ji-eun.
The first episode of "The Legend of the Blue Sea" recorded a higher number than Park Ji-eun's "My Love from the Star" and "Descendants of the Sun".
According to Nielsen Korea, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" on the 16th rated 16.4% while KBS 2TV "Oh My Geum-bi" rated 5.9% and MBC "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo" rated 3.3%.
It is outstanding that it hit such high numbers on its first episode.
These days it's hard for a drama to even make 10% during weekday prime time but "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo" did it like it was nothing.
It surpasses "Descendants of the Sun" and "My Love from the Star" which were the most successful dramas of their time.
Meanwhile, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama about a mermaid meeting a genius fraud and getting used to life on land.

photo784699.jpg
Starting on November 16, three new dramas will begin airing for Wednesdays and Thursdays.
KBS will air "Oh My Geum-bi", MBC will air "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo" and SBS will air "The Legend of the Blue Sea".
SBS Bada, featuring Jeon Ji-hyeon and Lee Min-ho have gained much attention with many viewers predicting that this will be the number one drama for the Wednesday/Thursday slot.
This will be the first time in three year that both these actors have returned to the drama scene. Many are curious to see how the two will play out these unique roles.
"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama that uses motifs from a mermaid story found in the book called "Eaou Yadam".

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "The Legend of the Blue Sea" Episode 1

photo785026.jpg
Although not the most original K-drama opening in dramaland, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" established some good background on the characters, the plot, and the zany treats that are in store for us. Jeon Ji-hyeon is just as funny and charming as we expected her to be with another Park Ji-eun-penned drama. Park wrote the 2013 sensation "My Love from the Star" that also starred Jeon as a quirky, strong female lead. This episode boasted of some awesome fish-out-of-water antics (pun-intended) and plenty of swoony Lee Min-ho scenes. Welcome back to dramaland, Lee Min-ho.
Director Jin Hyeok ("City Hunter", "Doctor Stranger") still loves his camera filters and special effects although this time they're a little far-fetched. Both storms that wash Ji-hyeon's mermaid ashore were a tad hoaky. I have to say the mermaid form of Jeon Ji-hyeon, while she is beautiful, is a disappointing lace number. It would've been really cool had she had scales that traveled up her chest and neck to make her feel more otherworldly. But that is a minor quibble. because Jeon Ji-hyeon was absolutely hysterical as the mermaid who discovers the amenities of the modern world. She pulls tissues out of a tissue box like a child, eats food like my cat, and hangs herself in clothes that are still hanging in the closet. She was definitely the funny woman to Lee Min-ho's suave, skilled straight man.
3
His character is Heo Joon-jae, conman and skilled hypnotist pulls dangerous heists with his two brothers-in-crime, Jo Nam-doo (Lee Hee-joon) and Tae-oh (Shin Won-ho), are high-stakes crimes that require Ocean's 11 skills and even savvy-er getaways. I like the three together as they are comfortable working as a team and have been doing it for quite some time. Digging into their back story should be interesting.
More than that, I like that this story has a taste of what made "My Love from the Star" so successful: the parallel stories in past and present. Supposedly there will be a child cast, too, adding more history to it all. We have yet to meet the other leads, but we still have a second episode for the week.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" Jeon Ji-hyeon tied up? Meets Lee Min-ho for the first time

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" Jeon Ji-hyeon and Lee Min-ho met for the first time.

Pictures of the mermaid (Jeon Ji-hyeon) and Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min-ho) meeting for the first time were released on the 31st.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is the story of a mermaid in danger of being extinct, meeting a genius fraud on land and getting used to city life.

The mermaid is prepared to fight if anything is to happen. She's full of wariness and is standing against Joon-jae who just seems amused by this situation.

The mermaid has something all over her mouth but she doesn't seem to know as she continues to look seriously at Joon-jae.

On the other hand, Joon-jae looks shocked at the appearance of a strange woman. He's been shaken but he's trying to deal with it as calmly as possible.

Joon-jae leaves evidence of this mermaid who attacked him first but the mermaid can't move as she's confused and tied up.

This scene is where the mermaid gets human legs and meets Heo Joon-jae for the first time. It was taken in Spain and the situation was so ridiculous that they couldn't help laugh in between shots.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" begins with the mermaid attacking Joon-jae and the first episode will be released on the 16th of November at 10PM.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" Jeon Ji-hyeon and Lee Min-ho's poster

The posters for "The Legend of the Blue Sea" have been released.

The teaser posters for the new SBS drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea" were released on the 28th.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is about a mermaid in danger of extinction, meeting a genius fraud and getting used to life on land.

On the posters, Jeon Ji-hyeon looks curious and the writings on the posters make it look like they are having a conversation.

Jeon Ji-hyeon's poster has a background of blue waters with Jeon Ji-hyeon just sticking her head out of it. It looks like she's looking at something interesting ahead but she also seems careful about meeting anything foreign. The writing, 'Are you curious?' is perfect for the picture.

Lee Min-ho is dressed naturally but manly and is standing on a terrace with his hair ruffled by the wind. The writing 'I am curious' shows that he has a story to tell and his sad eyes are searching far ahead for something.

He could be answering Jeon Ji-hyeon's question. The chemistry between them is expected to be highly compatible.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" will be released on the 16th of November at 10PM.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" Jeon Ji-hyeon and Lee Min-ho's teaser

Actress Jeon Ji-hyeon and actor Lee Min-ho appeared in the teaser for the new SBS drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea".

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama about the last mermaid on Earth meeting a genius fraud and living on land.

Lee Min-ho and Jeon Ji-hyeon look very sorrowful as if they miss each other.

The footage starts with Lee Min-ho sitting on the rocks and looking out into the ocean as if he's waiting for someone.

Then the footage goes onto show Lee Min-ho unconscious near the coast and Jeon Ji-hyeon crouched between the rocks as if she's fearing someone.

Jeon Ji-hyeon is the mermaid. She swims in the ocean as swiftly as a dolphin and it is just so magical.

The narration in the footage elevates the sadness as Jeon Ji-hyeon sounds like she might breakdown crying at any moment. Part of a narration says, "I'll keep my promise. I promise to get to you through the storm, through a road that I have never been down before".

Although the footage is short, the part where Jeon Ji-hyeon is sitting lonely between lilies and scared to death about something, is so abundant and beautiful. She's already a wreck but people are poking her with a stick. Still, her will power to make it to Lee Min-ho never dies.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" can be seen on the 16th of November at 10PM.
